Since October 2014, Mr. Gabriele LIBERA has been Research Associate and Project Manager at gLAWcal - Global Law Initiative for Sustainable Development. Since 2011, he has been a PhD Candidate (with full scholarship) in Chinese Philosophy majoring in Daoism at Beijing University and he will earn his PhD in 2015. His dissertation thesis uses the ideas of Existentialist phenomenology to provide a theoretical basis for Zhuangzi’s philosophy of the Ego and his concept of freedom. He earned his Bachelor Degree and Master Degree cum laude in Foreign Languages and International Relations at Catholic University of Sacred Heart, Milan, Italy. His bachelor thesis focused on the Chinese terminology of solar energy and other forms of sustainable energy. Mr. Libera was also Research Fellow at University of Eastern Piedmont (Università degli Studi del Piemonte Orientale Amedeo Avogadro), Novara, Italy, and at University Institute for European Studies – IUSE (Istituto Universitario di Studi Europei), Turin, Italy, within EU Commission funded research projects on sustainable development, climate change, energy and environmental protection. Since January 2014, he has been EU Commission Marie Curie Fellow at Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, and at Beijing University, School of Government, Center for European Studies, Beijing, China. His main research areas of interest are sustainable development, Chinese Philosophy, comparative philosophy. Italian native speaker, fluent in Chinese and English, he has good knowledge of Ancient Chinese and French.
